The Railway Administration has purchased the delivery of traction electricity on PXE

For the third time in its history, the Railway Administration has selected the supplier of traction electricity for the carriers by electronic auction. This was done through an exchange meeting on the Power Exchange Central Europe (PXE).

"We have been providing traction electricity for railway carriers since 2019, when we took over this role from Czech Railways (ČD). We have demanded approximately the same amount of electricity as in previous years. The final price of electricity for the carriers will be mainly influenced by the gradual fixation of the electricity price depending on the price development on the wholesale market," said Jiří Svoboda, Director General of the Railway Administration.

"We are glad that the Railway Administration has been using PXE services for the third year in the selection of the supplier and the subsequent gradual price fixation. For us, the auction for the selection of the supplier is the beginning of the whole process of cooperation with the Railway Administration, as the final price will be known only on the basis of the price fixation steps, which will be decisive for the final price. The individual steps will be carried out at current wholesale market prices and for the Railway Administration this process represents the optimal way of purchasing with maximum risk diversification", said David Kučera, Secretary General of Power Exchange Central Europe.

A total of 1.332 TWh was demanded. A total of seven PXE trading participants applied to the exchange and competed for the supply. The winning supplier was ČEZ ESCO, a.s., which will provide electricity for the Railway Administration next year under the given conditions.

"ČEZ has historically supplied electricity to the Railway Administration, only last year was the supply provided by a competitor. The Railway Administration is the largest consumer of electricity in the Czech Republic and at the same time the largest customer of ČEZ ESCO. We are glad that after our success in the auction for this year we were able to offer this customer the best conditions for next year as well," says Kamil Čermák, CEO of ČEZ ESCO.
